DPBRN expands

Because of the tremendous interest in the Alabama Dental Practice Research Network (ADPRN), we expanded the network to include other practitioners and organizations. The network is called the Dental Practice-Based Research Network (DPBRN) and we began enrolling dentists in November 2003. We are having the same remarkable success in building this network as we had with the ADPRN.

DPBRN received its first NIH grant

We are very pleased to report that DPBRN received its first grant from the NIH (National Institutes of Health) on September 26, 2003. Dr. Tom Houston is the grant’s Principal Investigator. Drs. Gregg Gilbert and Catarina Kiefe serve as co-Principal Investigators. This five-year R01 grant from the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research and National Institute of Drug Abuse (R01-DA-17971; "Dental Tobacco Control.Net: Improving Practice") will develop a web site and internet-based intervention for oral cancer prevention.
